Wyandotte County: Fighting Health Disparity Through Resident Leadership

Partners: Design Impact & Community Health Council of Wyandotte County

A three-year study traced a Kansas community’s poor health back to redlining, a historic practice of discrimination that has spiraled into poor housing, lack of healthcare access, and environmentally-related health issues for residents. In response, the Community Health Council of Wyandotte County organized residents to combat these health issues head-on. DI has spent the last four months with this resident coalition, guiding them through a human-centered design training to develop strategies they can lead and execute together.

“We went from being a group of people wanting to come together to do things to being a group of people doing things.”
